ANCHORAGE CHAPTER OF THE ALASKA MASTER GARDENER ASSOCIATION
The Anchorage Chapter of the Alaska Master Gardeners Association, Inc., (AMGA) was organized to enhance and supplement the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Alaska Cooperative Extension Master Gardener program.
Our mission is to promote availability of gardening information to Alaska citizens as a result of University study and experimentation.
The members of the Anchorage Chapter perform special tasks and activities related to the Master Gardener program. Members actively foster, promote and disseminate gardening information in Alaska.
Volunteerism is the basis of the Master Gardener program and Chapter members are dedicated volunteers. Members regularly assist the Alaska Cooperative Extension (ACE) by staffing information tables and Garden Clinics at local events throughout the year. Members also help staff ACE telephones to answer gardening questions.
Members are also active in organizing and leading gardening activities in local elementary schools. Many adult gardening classes and seminars are taught by members at Community Schools and conferences around Alaska, and many community organizations rely upon members of the AMGA for speakers and presentations.
For several years, members have been participating in Chapter projects by planting and maintaining flower beds at the Alaska Pioneers Home in Anchorage and the entrance garden at the Alaska Botanical Garden.
In pursuit of its objectives, the Anchorage Chapter regularly presents educational programs and field trips. The programs and field trips are open to the public - visitors and guests are always welcome.
Educational programs are presented
at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of every month, September through May (except
December).
Programs are held at:
Membership in the Anchorage Chapter of the AMGA is open to any person or organization interested in the objectives of the Chapter and Association. Voting membership is available to certified Master Gardeners. Nonvoting membership is available to organizations, businesses and those without Master Gardener Certification.
